Welcome to the GM’s Workbench.  My name is Kevin, and as my wife accurately describes me, I’m a well-documented nerd.  And I have two major passions in my life, engineering and table-top rpgs.  For my day job I’m a software engineer, but I’ve always loved TTRPGS, and love to do world building and being a game master.

I wanted to start by saying that I really appreciate you finding and taking time to check out this blog. I know there is no shortage of dungeons and dragons related content online, and a lot of it is quite good. So, I appreciate you taking a time to check out this humble site.

For my day job, I’m an engineer, and one of  the things I love most in this world is to be creative and build things, and it’s also one of the reasons I am a perfectly happy forever game master.

So the question becomes, what can you find here.  And my goal is to make it quite a lot, but at a high level you will find the following.

  1. Tips for Dungeon Masters and Players:  Not that surprising, but here you will find some posts to help you approach being a player or dungeon master in TTRPGs.
  2. Magic Items:  a collection of magic items I’ve created and am releasing that I hope help you with you games.
  3. Monsters:  a collection of monsters that I’ve made that I hope you can use to challenge your players.
  4. NPCs:  A group of custom NPCs that I’ve made that can add depth to your game.
  5. Locations:  A group of posts of different locations you can drop into your games, and help with world building.
  6. Encounters:  A collection of encounters I’ve built that you can plug into your campaigns to help spice things up.
  7. Game Mechanics:  while I do love the mechanics of the D20 system, I have found that in some plays I use custom rules and you will find those here.

There will be more to come I’m sure, but this is at least the goal to start. I want to make sure to provide options for helping others to add to your game and make for memorable sessions at your table.

One thing you will find at this blog is that I very much subscribe to the idea that DnD and other games are about collaborative storytelling and that the way a DM “wins” is to deliver a session that your players enjoy and remember. And I hope to help others, so whether you are a new DM or a seasoned one, my goal is to provide content that helps you to deliver those amazing sessions to your players.

So with that enjoy, and my your die rolls be crits when you need them.
